  • bryan young replied to the topic Engine mount in How Tos
The two bolts you mention are always very very tight, they weld themselves into the mounting, because of dissimilar metals there is a good chance that the bolt is well and truly fused in. I have an engine mount from a friends TF where both bolts had sheared and the engine dropped. both halves were unbolted from engine & subframe and replaced, two new bolts with copper grease on threads.

looking good. the MGF & TF bumpers were made and painted off site by a third party company, hence the reason why some did not match, mainly the reds!! the black inset part on the TF bumpers was painted matt black before they were fitted.

  • bryan young replied to the topic FRONT BRAKES in MGF/TF Pitstop
I would fit another bumper, try MGFNTFBITZ or Martin Smith you may get one in the correct colour ( paint code is on the VIN plate under the bonnet. If you want to repair that one you need to take it off and plastic weld the split on the inside or repair/reinforce with a layer of glass fibre matting.

  • bryan young replied to the topic FRONT BRAKES in MGF/TF Pitstop
I am approaching 80 and had my one owner 96 MGF now since 2007 ( I also have a 1978 MGB GT- owned since 1999 -on SORN) I have carried out all the work on the F with the exception of head gasket and cam belt changes ( Russell Walsh - MG ROVER SOLUTIONS) and a gear cable replacement!! Because the garage is housing the MGB (on Axle Stands) work on the F has to be done OUTSIDE, just waiting for the weather to improve, so I can fit 280mm front discs and DRL lights ( bumper off) also fit rebuilt wiper assembly with Mike Satur linkage ( No joints popping off ). the existing one works but is very noisy. oh and some chrome speaker rings and TF tweeters to fit needs door cards off again!! bit like whores drawers!! - got to be ready for MG 100 at Brooklands on 19 May.

  • bryan young replied to the topic Aaarrgghh! in MGF/TF Pitstop
I have a 1996 Mk1 MGF and I replaced the 8 year old Bosch battery in June 2023 with a VARTA Silver 075 battery, the car is not getting used very much due to ULEZ , its locked on my drive, The car still starts after three weeks of inactivity , I will top it up with the CTEK next week ready for a run. It is the alarm and clock that pulls the battery down, the cold weather does not help batteries.

  • I have a 1996 MGF and at 70,000 miles I replaced the clutch Master cylinder and Slave cylinder ( Clutch arm is free) at the same time I fitted a Lotus Slave cylinder stiffening bracket, also a Mike Satur bell crank. I noticed an improvement in the clutch feel & operation, easier selecting gears & reverse with minimum crunching. new fluid as well,
